I am a tentative home owner.

“Tentative”, as I’m not yet sitting in my new shack of a condo, looking out at the faux waterfall and enjoying the audio cacophony of SFO flights above. Seems like all I’m doing nowadays is waiting and stressing out about waiting; I see why they build a lot of padding into the entire home purchasing process. Of course, when the elements gather, there’s a 2-3 hour flurry as agents and brokers scramble to save the deal, all poetically puncutuated by fifty copies of my signature.

One of the ways I de-stress from all the mortgage crap is by working on this site. For me anyway, there’s an inherent satisfaction in telling the webserver exactly what you want and shuffling elements 2-3 pixels until everything looks dandy…as opposed to, say, trying to lock down an interest rate fluctuating to reactions in the marketplace about some government bailout of financial companies.

I finally got around to integrating the Pictures page with the rest of the site. This blog runs Wordpress; the pictures are hosted with help from Gallery2; the glue is a little plugin called WPG2. I made the theme, and since it’s not the most flexible in the world, I’ve been shoving the default Gallery2 interface into the mess. A bit of CSS scrubbing and PHP code hunting, and the Pictures section looks like it belongs with the rest of the site.

Anyway, yay to me.

Of course, million dollar views around here cost two million dollars.

I haven’t had much time or energy to post lately. It’s been a pretty hectic 2-3 weeks, starting with learning that my roommates - both of them - don’t intend stay past New Year’s Eve. Suddenly, instead of comfortably relaxing in my chair leaking crumbs on a carpet I don’t own, I’m running around scouting out a new location to plant the colonial flag of Allenstown, population one. With a stewing rental market resulting from a dismal housing market, I figured I ought to finally look at home ownership.
