Fiat Lux

Lighting is pretty important. As Sui fell asleep for the umpteenth time on the couch, struggling to stay awake against a dim standing light (1), it was time to renovate the lighting in my condo. I also tried poking her awake and got slapped.

Like almost everybody else, I switched my incandescent bulbs for energy-saving CFL’s, courtesy of multiple government subsidies, a few years back. Sure, there was a difference in lighting, but I didn’t think much of it till now; some rudimentary research showed that stores still sold high wattage bulbs, used in higher-end lamps, at a performance level unattainable by current CFL’s. Also, there were supposedly added benefits to using halogens and full-spectrum lighting as well, and that fluorescent flicker people complain about is probably keeping me irritable.

Thanks to Mabel for the recipe. More pics are found on the pictures page.

Emboldened by my previous efforts at cookery, I went for a more sophisicated kitchen test, this time employing my oven and the full range of the still unused cookware Sui bought a few months back.

It was to be your simple mac & cheese, but with a lot of cheese, plus other random bits of food thrown in for added flavor and crunch. And it’d be baked.

For the record, I spent an hour at Safeway getting the following set of ingredients:

Hm. It’s been a while since I posted.

Busy with the move-in and unpacking and clean-up and all. Buying this place has been akin to running a marathon, and the feelings throughout this process ranged from excitement to anxiety to frustration to relief to exhaustion. Actually, I’m currently at “disbelief”, as in, I can’t believe I’ve kept so much crap over the years.

Anyway, since my unit came with a full set of furniture, I snapped a few photos of its pristine, untainted-by-my-own-stuff, model-home-like state (1). The upshot is that when it’s time to go, I’ll have a blueprint as to exactly how make a home look like nobody has ever lived in it before.
